Unlike other schools, SMKDU takes pride
in maintaining vast patches of
greenery and plants in the environment of our instituition.
The mini forest
gardens are a proud monument to our commitment in maintaining
our
environment. These gardens are a replica of a tiny forest
and much of the
shrubs here are species of forest trees. Here, visitors and
students alike
can have an instant taste of undisturbed nature. The Forest
Gardens of
Knowledge occupies an obscure and remote part of the school,
thus
simulating the peace and quiet in a rainforest. Among the
species of trees
planted here include the Flame of Forest (Delonix regia),
the "Beruas"
(Garcinia hombroniana), the Teak tree (Toctona grandis), a
precious
source of valuable Teak wood, the "Cengal" (Hopea
odorata) and the
Ironwood (Mesua ferrea).
The Forest Gardens of Knowledge were setup in 1999 by the
Parent-
Teacher Association (PIBG) with the aim of creating an ideal
environment
for education and learning especially among Science stream
students. It
also exposes SMKDU students about the various species of forest
trees,
their uses in the scientific and industrial fields and helps
to increase
awareness about the importance of conserving our environment.
The
Forest Gardens of Knowledge are located opposite the Reflexology
Garden.
