SMKDU surroundings boasts of its own Herb
Gardens where useful and
nutritious plants rich in medicinal properties are planted.
The Herb
Gardens were created so that fellow SMKDU pupils would be
more
knowledgeable about traditional medicine and herbs. We hope
to expose
students to the usefulness of these unique plants and to help
our students
to love and appreciate nature. Furthermore, the setup of these
Herb
Gardens is vital to educate our pupils who are interested
in having a
career in the agricultural sector as these herb and traditional
plants have
commercial value and potential. It is also a vital component
in Agriculture
Living Skills education to lower secondary pupils.
The Herb Gardens were one of the few projects launched during
the
Ceriaton Campaign in April 1999 as part of an effort to upgrade
the image
and surroundings of the school. Among herbal plants within
the Herb
Gardens include the "Kacip Fatima", the "Tongkat
Ali" (Eurycoma
longifolia Jack), Aloe Vera, Ginger, Pandanus, White Hibiscus
and the
Noni Plants, the pride of our Herb Gardens and these Noni
fruits are highly
prized for their medicinal and delicious juices.
